Sandown Christmas Fun Day Cancelled

Unfortunately we have only just discovered the Christmas Eve Fun day in Sandown was cancelled due to an objection, by whom we are not certain? 

The organisers Sandown Carnival state on their website: DUE TO circumstances outside our control, this event has been CANCELLED.

Big Christmas Charity Sing

“Big Christmas Sing” in aid of Christian Aid, to help fight poverty is taking place today from 10 a.m at St Catherine’s Church, in Ventnor.
 
Michele Brock will be playing Christmas music on the piano from 10.00 am until 5.00pm, hopefully relieved at times by various friends.  Come along and choose some carols/songs to sing, or bring something with you to sing.  Refreshments, fair trade goods and a warm welcome available!

Wight Church Christmas Tree Display

A display of decorated Christmas Trees will be on view at St Peter’s Church, Main Road, Havenstreet: 
On Wednesday 23rd 10.30 am to 4.30 pm, Thursday 24th 10.30 am to 3.00 pm and after Christmas on Monday 28th Tuesday 29th  and Wednesday 30th December 10.30 am – 4.30 pm.

Light Refreshments will be available, admission is free but please make a donations to Church Funds.

Chale Green Winter’s Tale

Some warming news from the Isle of Wight today: A project by Chale Green community backed by Dame Ellen MacArthur and hailed as a “blueprint for sustainable living” has been selected as one of 10 ‘first movers’ in the Department of Energy and Climate Change Low Carbon Communities Challenge.

In supporting Chale Green Community efforts Ellen MacArthur  said:

“We will be sharing our experiences – both good and bad – and we hope that this project acts as a beacon for other communities around the UK, and beyond. You will be hearing more about the tale of Chale Green!”

The Chale Green Project has been awarded £500,000 to help spread the message of a low carbon lifestyle. YMCA Christmas Wishes Project

Isle of Wight YMCA Christmas wishes volunteers have decided that for their festive act of kindness they plan to undertake a ‘Christmas wishes’ card mini give away tour.

During Saturday 19th December volunteers will visit the residents at Leonard Cheshire Home and also give out cards to the general public in St Thomas’ Square, Newport 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Not only have they managed to re-use cards which were originally donated by the community they now hope to make those people and others smile for FREE!!
